Service Contracts ripoff Dealer switched warranty package after sale of ca

Warning to anyone with a Service Contract through Chrysler on used vehicles.

In April of I purchased a used 2001 Grand Cherokee. It was my second Jeep, the first Jeep had a major mechanical repair in the first year. I know it may be wise this time to cover my Jeep in the event of catastrophic failure. I told Casas De Gonzales of Whittier, I wanted a bumper to bumper warranty - I even want my wiper blades covered (figure of speech).

After hours of haggling about price, I elected to use my credit union for finacing. The dealer wanted to secure the deal, offering to let me take the car home and present a check in one week for full payment. If I did not secure my own loan they would process the finace application through Chrysler.

We went through all the paperwork in the finace department. I was given a brochure of the Warranty package, they took me through every package showing me the last 4 pages called Added Care Plus. Explaining that in addition to the items mentioned in every other package, you also have this coverage. The finance manager put little stars by thing like Luxury Power Group covergae and so on. The little stars he pointed out were very good to have with my option packed vehicle. I was 90% happy with the deal for a good year, never having to use my warranty or road side assistance.

In March of this year, I had a tire pop on the freeway at about 3pm PST. I used my cell phone to call the # for road side assistance on my warranty card. After listening to a slew of options the recording said " you can log on to on the web" How many people who are calling the roadside assitance have access at this moment to a computer? Then it said for roadside assistance please call this number.

What a hassle I thought, I wasn't ready to take down a # and had to call back. Once I wrote down the other #, I placed the call for assistance. "all operators are busy please hold" this went on for about 5 min, then a new message saying we are closed. Our hours are from 8am-7pm CST, Everywhere in the US it is between these hours, why are they saying they are closed? Luckily I was helped by OCTA tow truck free of charge.

Sometime later I had both passenger door locks stick, rendering them unopenable. I took my car to the dealer I purchased it from and gave them the warranty card, I was asked to sign a $75 charge if the door locks were not covered under warranty.

How can this be; I have the top of the line warranty? I was then informed I only had a added care package. I got a ride home from the dealer and compared my warranty brochure to the warranty card (first time I had looked) and the warranty they say I was getting and the one actually given were two different plans.

I have been to the dealer with my paperwork 3 times since, placed over 10 phone calls, had the sales manager take copies to give to the person who handles warrantys, and never once gotten anything but a run around. He is not in, the lady who handles that is on vacation, the finace manager is not in until after 12pm, and that is not my job.

This is a 5 STAR dealer, and they always tell me if I get a questionaire and bring it in to fill out while they are present-I get a tank of gas free. Funny thing is no questionaire has ever come, I would not take the free gas for lying about the service I receive. I have also tried many times while at home to get through to the roadside service people, always getting the recording of the hours they are available, never a live person for help. This was $2000 expense added onto the price of my car, and I have not ever been able to recover any benefit of the warranty purchased.

By the way, the door lock problem was estimated at repair expense of $800 if not covered. Turns out, it was included on the plan I was given and the deductible was $100. When I returned to pick up the car the invoice showed the cost of repair as $125 and me paying $100. I guess they would have charged me $800 if I wasnt under a warranty. I was also told we are washing it for you, but when I went to go getin my car it has not washed. The driver door had been left open and a bird flying over had taken a crap that landed right inside the window arm rest.
