I was charged a $1.00 trial membership to conduct a background check on 12/7. Five days later my credit card was charged $39.63 for a premier membership. The charge was repeated on 1/11. At the time of initiating the trial membership, I was not informed that I had 5 days to cancel my membership or I would automatically be enrolled in one of the membership plans offered by Instant Checkmate. I contacted Instant Checkmate and they stated the 5 days notice was on their website and I would not be able to recoup the payments made as they were electronic transactions and there was nothing they could do to reverse the charges to my credit card. The method used to allow them to charge my credit card is very deceptive and I would like to put InstantCheckmate.com on some kind of alert list to warn other individuals of this deceptive practice.
