Pizza Hut on Hannum St., Some things never change...
I am a college graduate currently working as a delivery driver due to fact that I lost my job in my field of study. Simply put: because of NAFTA I lost a career and had to go back to work at the place that was actually the inspiration for continuing my education. Pizza Hut on Hannum St in Alcoa, Tn, has never been one of Blount County's honorable employers. Drugs have always been part of the mix and at times, I believe that these drug users are actually the type of people that they like to hire in the resteraunt business. You see, these folks aren't very bright and aren't very knowledgeable of things that employers can and can't do. That's exactly what Pizza Hut likes. Most of these drug users don't even have enough money to pursue litigation in the instance that management at Pizza Hut (Ameri HUTS) has dropped the ball.
When I first returned, the general manager actually told me, and I quote, "... Nothings changed that much, management still doesn't care about the well-being of it's employees." Irealized at that point, just how far back down the ladder of success that I had slid to actually here a general manager make such a statement.
Things went pretty smoothe for a few weeks, and I actually felt as though tips were better than what they were during my original tour of duty as a driver seven years prior.
On a dayshift tour i went to a house that i had previously delivered to that week to get directions. A young man who was high on crack shoved an old M1 army through the front window on the door uttering gibberish words of what language i don't know. I immediately called the police.
Do you want to guess what happened next? The police did nothing.
Pizza Hut did nothing. As a matter of fact, Jeff Clark the store general manager gave me a hard time about the incident. But luckily, heresay is still heresay, and the laws of the state of TN still apply. Pizza Hut still delivers to this address which is in a run down part of town that has become adrug haven. Had I have known this, I would have refused to deliver the pizza. Jeffwas right, Pizza Hut still doesn't care about the safety or well being of its employees.
When I was 18, I'm now 32, I was working as a driver at this same Pizza Hut, when two men tried to rob me in the parking lot.instead of just robbing me they decided they were going to beat me up. WRONG! Obviously the two city trash individuals didn't realize that I wasn't from Alcoa, but from Townsend, a mountain community where people are slightly more rugged.
Both ended up in the emergency that night, one for an extended 3 day stay. I pulled something in my back during the altercation on PIZZA HUT property was unable to work the next day. The manager, Richard Vest, again gave me hard time about not coming to work. This is typical pizza hut corporate regime practices. They'll stand on their heads for these trashy customers wanting something for free, but employees are left sucking hind tit. For you folks not familiar with appalachian slang, "sucking hind tit" is an expression similar to S*T OUT OF LUCK.
Finally...
The reason that I am submiting my story to the world, is an incident which happened on the the 24th of April.
A young man, not paying attention like most his age, collided with the rear end of my truck while I was delivering.instead of calling the Police which is legislated in this state, he called some of his buddies which were approx. 2 blocks away.
When these 3 hoods rolled up, i realized what was going on so i hopped back in my truck and went on back to the store. This is Pizza Hut policy by the way. On top of that, this guy that rear-ended me, his car was pretty much totaled. There was no damage to my vehicle because of the drop hitch that I have. This is the only thing that resembles justice in any way during this story.
These trashy freaks followed me back to Pizza Hut where on of them was injured. I'm not really sure how. I was never close enough to any of to bust'em one and I think once they saw my size, decided that helping their buddy wasn't worth getting mangled.
Now, this is where my story gets interesting...
These guys left and in the meantime, the boy who rear-ended me shows up with his mommy and daddy. I thought that I was going to have to whopp his daddy but thankfully the police showed up. I'm sure our paths will cross again in the future.
The mother was immediately arrested due to her behavior. As the police were loading this pile of trash in their cruiser, the vehicle of three shows up. The one big difference was that the driver had dropped of the other two and returned.
The police had a very hard time figuring out just what was going on. With all due respect, most policemen are working with very little mentality any ways. Finally the police decided that i had no done anything wrong and in fact had followed PIZZA HUT procedure. I left and went home.
Six days later i received a criminal summons for assault and destruction of property. A criminal summons is different than actually being arrested and charged with a crime. You see, if the police thought that I was in the wrong they would have brought the charges.instead these city trash individuals were able to convince a migistrate to summons me. The court date was set and nobody from their side showed up. Imagine that!
Now, here's the real kicker...
Turns out one of the younger delivery drivers at our store, MATT LAVOY, is friends with these guys and in order to help his buddies out, signed an affidavit that he saw me hit this little fruitcake. Hmmmmmmmm... But couldn't come to court to backup this lie.
Matt moved here from CA and is a self proclaimed drug addict. His father is a pharmicist in Knoxville, so his access to prescription drugs is readily available. This is the type of witness that attorneys love.incidentally my attorney is able to prove that Matt was on a delivery according to several statements given by fellow Pizza Hut employees.
At present, my lawyer and I are awaiting a rescheduled court date but Pizza hut Still won't let me come back to work. I am suing all involved for defamation and maliscious prosecution. Arrangements are underway to bring Pizza Hut up on charges of consistently violating state law by not providing its employees with a safe work environment. We shouldn't have to deliver to trash that don't even have the common decency to post their address in front of their residence according to STATE LAW.
Drivers at PIZZA HUT on Hannum St in ALCOA, are sent on other deliveries in high crime areas. A good corporate policy would be that if you have to pass three or four crack dealers on the delivery, then we probably shouldn't go there.incidentally, Papa Johns and Dominoes will not deliver to these areas. Isn't that great to know that Pizza Hut knowingly sends it s employees into these areas.
I have worked in the corporate arena and never have i seen such disregard for employee safety. But, in order to make these fools see this, you have to hit'em in the pocket book.
Thanks for listening. If you have any questions like me about this shitty deal please call 865-984-4340 and ask to speak to Preston Arnwine. He's the area supervisor who suspended me without pay.By the way, in the state of TN, LAW says that you can suspend someone but you have to pay them. I guess PIZZA HUT doesn't care about the laws in which they operate their restaraunts. They'll soon learn!!!
