Management Review

Dunkin Donuts / Baskin Robbins is surely not getting the employer of the year award any time soon. Not with incompetent management, inadequate training, low moral & poor customer service.

My daughter is currently employed as a shift leader at Dunkin Donuts / Baskin Robbins on Old Hickory Blvd.in Hermitage, TN. My son also just started working there. The work environment there is extremely stressful. The manager does not train her shift leaders properly, which in turn the shift leaders do not train other employees properly. They do utilize i-trains, which can help train people using a computer, however they don't use this as a supplement to training, they expect people to use it to train themselves. My son started his first day of work during the busiest shift of the day. He started out on the sandwich station and learned how to do his job by people who were not even trained on the sandwich station. Employees do not help other employees willingly or without attitude. There is NO teamwork and there are no words of encouragement.

Moral is so low in this place it's no wonder why so many people quit or are fired regularly. If you don't do the job perfect and do it fast within a few days of starting, you are told that you won't last long. "You aren't going to last much longer, You are too slow, I can't do my job if I have to help you with yours." Asking questions when you need help is discouraged. The manager will either flat out ignore your questions or will get aggravated that you need her help. She will also push you out of the way and take over if you are not going fast enough. Last I checked, micro-management was out. It also concerns me that if the manager has any issues with your work performance, she does not discuss these issues with you directly. However, she WILL discuss these issues with other employees.

The shifts are not managed properly either. Not only do you not know your schedule for the following week until a day or two prior, you are almost NEVER done working when your shift ends. Typically you are still working an hour or more later than you are scheduled to. If it takes 30 minutes to do your end of shift tasks, you should know to start prepping 30 minutes before your shift ends. However, that is not the case here. At shift end is when they have you start restocking or cleaning, as well as starting new tasks, such as dishes or anything else that the manager / shift leader would like you to do. This becomes a serious problem for people who may have an appointment after work, another job to go to or someone is picking you up because you need a ride home. There is just no way of telling when your shift will actually end.

As far as customer service goes. If you are not a drive through customer, be prepared to wait. It bothers me that the majority of people do NOT know that the staff only has 150 seconds to fill the customers order or there numbers go down. The clock starts from the minute you pull up to the menu and ends when you actually pull away with your order. So people inside placing orders are a much lower priority.

I don't know how anyone could possibly be productive and happy in such a horrible environment and I really can't understand how this store is even remotely successful. And the only time anyone really follows procedure in this place is when corporate shows up for a visit.
