Sales Tax Charged on Gift Card Purchase at River Grove Location

I purchased 5 $5.00 gift cards at the McDonalds in River Grove. Location Grand Ave and River Road, 60171..

I was charged $3.00 tax on these gift cards. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I'm charged a tax on the card, as well as the food purchased with these cards... Double taxation!!!

Across the street, a Subway. Purchased a $25.00 gift card from them... No tax charged...

What gives here??
