Sunday 2/13/05 I went to my local McDonalds drive thru and ordered a breakfast sandwich which I had a coupon for. The coupon stated $1.00 for any McMuffin or Biscuit breakfast sandwich. When I got to the service window I handed the cashier
$1.10 which would cover the cost of the sandwich tax. She replied that the charge was $1.19 I'm no genius but $1.00 plus 8.625% sales tax should equal $1.09 I explained my math to the girl, she replied the the computer is charging $1.19 I explained to her that I am being overcharged. She told the manager who replied that she had no control over the computer. I paid the difference. When I got home I took a good look at the receipt. It showed a $2.19 charge for the sandwich, minus a coupon credit of $1.09 and a Take Out Tax of $. 09 for a total charge of $1.19
There is no disclaimer anywhere that I could see. I plan on going back to see if the tax varies depending on the amount of the order. I would like to know if anyone else has had a similar experience.
