Complaint / Review
Twin City Federal TCF Banks
Ripoff, fraud, mishandling of funds, Theft

Well to start off, I own a small business in the area. I opened (3) checking (1) savings (1) Putnam investment account for my Children's future. Also, I have (1) personal checking account for myself, in all we have (5) accounts with this bank.

My problems started long ago with the bank, starting with them pulling my deposits from the ATM for improper endorsements. Say I deposit a $2000.00 check. They pull it out from the account then reenter it back into my account a day or two later. Then it waits for clearance even though they at TCF always tell people that if you deposit in the atm before 6pm the funds go into your account the next day if you go to TCF ask them that question, leaving my account to incur unavailable fund fees @33 dollars a time.

After numerous times of this happening I went into the bank to find out what is going on. They look into my account, find their faults and would offer to REVERSE 3 of the 9 fees that accrued. Knowing this is not right I would argue the facts then they would REVERSE half of the fees telling me that am all they can do. This has taking place 3 or more times now they say they can not make anymore REVERSALS for six months.

OK, here comes the good part, since March of this year (04) our business has moved. I went to the bank to up-date them with our new address and to order checks almo0st two week go by no check I go back to the bank reorder the checks. I got the checks days later, almost two months go by I have not received a statement.

I went back to the bank they again said they did not have the right address. I have even ordered checks as you can see on my march statement on 03-12-04. Well I did not catch the problem until late June. Come to find out in June they had tacked so many NSF fees to my account that all money I put into the account would only apply to the NSF fees now I am not talking $50 bucks I am talking thousands year to date.

My one business account I use for all business needs has accumulated 131 unavailable funds fees. That's right one Hundred and Thirty One fees @ $31 a pop. But the fees changed from 31 to 33 dollars so we will do the math @ 31 but it has been 33 for months now. OK the total is $4,061 and if you times 131 by 33 it comes to $4,323 either way its way too much. I applied for the account backer (overdraft protection plan) never got a response back.

Needless to say I did not get it because from June 1st to July 7th TCF sucked $1518 out of my account for NSF fees (non sufficient funds). With all of this taking place I didn't know a thing about it because they never sent any overdraft notices. Their explanation was they had sent something out to my shop address but it was returned so therefore they do not send anymore mail to that address. BUT, they still proceed to STEAL my money without notifying me, so I have never been able to balance my account properly, and the domino effect continues.

I have since talked with management, only to be told his hands are tied he has no answers he can't exlain it. BUT he won't give my money back. I again had to give him the address. On 6-18 he's the one that told me that they sent a letter out and it got returned so they freeze mail or BLOCK MAIL as they call it.

I've contacted the Regional Manager Pat Abrams; she has looked into it and has reversed $1146.75 back to my account. She told me she would send out the past due statements for me and I was to write a dispute letter for full reversal. Well the statements never showed, I again called the 612-TCF-BANK number spoke with a guy who looked into my account and still they had not corrected my address. He assured me he would get these statements to me and he did.

I Searched Through each monthly statement, in the month of March I was charge $959.00 in NSF fees, in April I was charged $518.00 in NSF fees and a mystery charge of $239.00 taken out of my account without my knowledge.in May I was charged $297.00 in overdraft fees and $9 in atm fees??? In June the NSF fees came to $1122.00 plus $74.94 in an unauthorized debit, July's total was only $396.00 in NSF fees also an $8.00 mystery ATM fee.in all, since March 1st TCF has taken from me $3383.00. Beings I'm bothered by this and I have made it clear to the management of the TCF branch in Forest Lake, I have now been served with a registered letter from the manager of the Forest Lake TCF stating the following, and I quote:

This letter is to notify you that we have made the decision to terminate the banking relationship between you and TCF national bank.

TCF will be closing the following accounts: (ALL FIVE OF MY ACCOUNTS) Thirty days from the date of this letter, however, if you choose, you may close your accounts sooner.

If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact our office at 651-982-1017.

Sincerely,

Michael Ringdahl
Branch Manager - Forest Lake

I don't mind the change but how disrespectful. Will this affect my ability to get a home loan? That's the reason I stayed with TCF was because we were going to purchase a home the first of the year. Now what? So, here I am next step, file a complaint with the OCC. If anyone can help me or you have a comment please contact me by using the rebuttal box below.
