I went into Stewart Finance company around 1998 and 1999 to apply for a small personal loan and was denied both times. I did not go back to this company to reapply.
In 2004 I received a copy of my 3 in 1 credit report from the 3 major credit bureaus. Stewart Finance was on there twice for two separate loans in the amount of 500.00 each.
One loan was in 2002 and the other one in 2003 right before this company went out of business and/or switched owners. How convenient.
I contacted the company and spoke with a customer service representative who stated that this is not the first time this has happened and that several people had been done the same way.
She looked in the computer and read off a street address and telephone number to a location that I had never even heard of and some other information that was not mine.
I spoke to the Manager (Terry) who said he would handle everything. I faxed a letter stating that the loans were not mine and mailed the hard copy to him.
Two weeks later, I followed up with a phone call to Terry who informed me that my situation was being handled at corporate headquarters by his superior and it would be a while longer.
I also sent a letter to the 3 major credit bureaus asking them to investigate this matter.
In the meantime, my credit score has been lowered due to this fraudulent activity and someone is 1000.00 richer off of me.
