I was recently contacted by Joy from CAMCO about a credit card I had with Citibank 14 years ago that they had long written off. She offered me a convenient payment plan or the chance to settle the debt for half the amount owed. I knew that the statute of limitations had already run out on it years ago and that CAMCO had no way to make me pay other than to hope that I didn't know that so that they could intimidate me into paying. When I told them I wouldn't pay because they couldn't make me, Joy started screaming at me and threatened to call me every day until I paid no matter how long it took. Since I didn't feel like getting into an argument, I just hung up the phone. For good measure, I also went them a letter telling them not to contact me again. I haven't heard from them since then (last week). Now I'm wondering if it's just because last week, they settled a case with the FTC.
