We contacted Mr. Campbell from out of town, attempting to purchase our first home. While in AZ, we met with him and he told us we were qualified. He even gave us a pre-approval letter, verifying that we were approved for a certain amount of financing. We found a home, and everything seemed great.
Then, Mr. Campbell began coercing us into lying extravagantly about our assets and our entire financial situation. We're not rich. We don't have great credit, but we were told we were qualified before all of this coercion began.
Mr. Campbell told us that we were going to say that we had vehicles we don't have and assets worth more than our are worth. He then asked us to have my mother-in-law lie and say that we pay more rent to her than we did, and to have friends who work at companies create letters on company letterheads regarding fictitious accounts that we don't actually have. This was all in one day, AFTER we were told we were approved.
When we tried to get out of the deal because we felt uncomfortable lying, Mr. Campbell tried to tell us that it was all okay, because no one would ever try to verify the information. That is blatant admission of his wrong-doings. Not to mention that if the lenders did try to verify all of these lies, we would be in jail right along with him.
We would have sought another broker, had we not been on a very tight schedule. But instead, we ended up having to cancel the entire transaction and rent because of Mr. Campbell's poor business dealings.
Please, do not make the same mistake we did. Do not trust American Mortgage Specialists, and ESPECIALLY not Jeff Campbell at this location, unless you want to risk years in prison for fraud charges.
