Our family is being harrassed by phone collectors regarding late payment on a Chevrolet. Not only don't we own a chevrolet, we have never owned one. Don't have a car payment (we pay cash); and have no late payments to anyone. I did not even know who Americredit was until I looked them up on the internet.
The Americredit collectors are very rude, and continue to call frequently despite 2 calls and an e-mail to customer service to inform them of their error. Unfortunately, these thugs are so pathetically unintelligent that they can't seem to understand that they aren't even calling the city they say the debtor (who apparently has the same name as my husband) lives in.
They have even tried to get me to give them my husband's SS# to "prove" they are calling the wrong person. They have made it very clear that they have no intention of leaving us alone, and even said it is my fault thay are calling. Because I have a "rude tone of voice" when they call.
I have reported them to the FTC, am keeping a phone log of calls. The main concern I have is that they may be doing this to elderly or disadvantaged people who may pay them unowed money out of fear.
