My family and I just purchased a condo in the Lyon Estates Community of San Diego, CA for 150 thousand dollars. We did our homework and felt that we got educated by going to home buyer seminars, and we really did our research. We obtained our financing from a big reputatable company but still had the local feel. We interviewed 3 total companies: American Mortgage, Bank Of America and Financial Enterprise. We decided to go with Bank Of America since we wanted express service! We really liked one of the other loan officer's Ron Leitner but decided to go with our guy at the largest American bank in the country. The home is my wife's dream home and we were so excited that we got into a great home in the presitgous Lyon Estates. Everything up until this point is perfect until I decided to go out and buy a lei for my wife to celebrate.
We planned on having a Hawaiian style BBQ that night and I know that buying a lei should not be that big of a deal nor getting ripped off by a $100 or so bucks but I just don't want anyone else to get ripped off too. It is the principle that matters! I am sorry but my blood is still boiling over this and I want justice not karma! It is making the whole home buying experience sour. I should be celebrating but now I am just pissed off at this lei saleman in his late 20's!
I go in the shop and I know I look like a total tourist because I am wearing my lei shirt so I must of been a target. I pick out the lei and go to the counter. The kid behind the counter stikes up a conversation with me. Once I tell him I bought a new home he tells me how he used to be a mortgage broker and tries to conn me into buying every flower in the store. Distracted I get the bill and just pay for it and leave the store. About three blocks later I look at the bill again and realize I just paid $175 for one lei!!! I first think it must be a mistake, so I turn around and drive back to the lei shop. I went into the shop showed the kid the bill and I asked for the money back. He said "all sales are final, didnt you read the sign?" I said I don't care about the sign I am not going to pay $175 for a lei. I spent over an hour triying to get my money back and finally he then had the audacity to tell me to go ahead and sue him and to get in line and there was nothing I can do to get my money back. I ended up having to leave. Devastated, I didnt know what I could tell my wife. PLEASE DO NOT BUY AN lei or any other floral from them, they will RIP YOU OFF. Oh and check your bill even if you are excited about something or distracted! God forbid we can be excited in this society/economy. If you get excited you might get RIPPED OFF!
