I financed some furniture last October with a no interest promotion. Knowing how these promotions work, I set up automatic equal payments to come out on the same day each month. I doubled up on the payments so that I could pay off the furniture in a year. I set it up for a specific date thinking it would be within the due date.
On four occassions, they levied late fees because the payment came in one day late of $39.95. The due date ranged from the 8th to the 11th of every month. I am guilty of not looking at every statement knowing that the payment will be sent.
The company should be happy that they are getting the payment every month, on the same day, but make it hard on someone who has set up automatic payments by changing the day every month. I think the late fee is outrageous. I had informed them of the set up, and they have taken off 2 of the 4 late fees after calling twice. The customer service reps all sounded like they are from another country too.
I am paying off the balance early and closing the account and will not fianance through GE Monogram anymore. I would do the same for any other card that practices this kind of service. What a nice way to thank a good customer. You would think a card company would look into working with scheduled payments and not penalize them.
Thank you for letting me complain. I wish legislation would do something about this practice.
