Wells Fargo Bank, NA-Wells Fargo Home Mortgage
Unsavory business practices, bait and switch

On May 26 my wife and I went to see Wells Fargo Home Mortgage to refinance our home. We paid the $395 appraisal fee the day we started the process. We were told that the closing and our escrow account at the other Mortgage company would be added into the new loan with them. We were looking forward to having a little extra money, as we live on my VA pension. We were looking to save a little bit and lock in a low interest rate. Our mortgage officer was Jean Baglien Wolff. We had all necessary documentation to get the ball rolling. We were going to use our VA certificate as I am a Disabled Veteran. We got the appraisal back and our home was worth more than the refi. Amount. But, for the first 2 months we didn't here any news on the progression of our refi. We left at least 15 messages with Mrs. Wollf and she only responded once. She said it will take a little while longer. She also, told us that we could stop our autopay with the other Finance Company, due to the fact our loan was getting ready to close. Around first part of August we were informed that we needed more proof of income. We got this paperwork to her rather quickly on the 3rd of August. Told us about a week later that the information we submitted would not be adequate. She said that I needed a letter from my Doctor. The letter had to say that my Disabilty would continue for at least 3 or more years. So now I would have to wait almost 3 weeks for the appointment. I got the letter to her on around the 4th of September. Again, it takes almost 10 days for them to comlete application. We were called on 3:13 pm on the 15th of September to be informed that she was ready to have documents signed. There was one catch, we had to now come the closing with $4700.00 in closing costs. We were also informed the day before closing, that for a VA loan you have to pay closing costs. If we would of known this, we would have went with a conventional loan instead. We belieive that she knew this and held this information until the end. Well, to say we were stunned, was an understatement. She also had the gall, to tell my wife that we could get a signature loan or take a loan out to pay the closing costs. I'm sure she would made a commission on that too besides the one on the mortgage. We have worked hard to dig ourselves out of a financial hole. I was disabled by a Military Doctor in 1994, and forced to retire while in wheelchair on $670.00 per month. I had a wife and 2 kids at the time. So to say my credit was in shambles, was an understatement. I am trying to stay out of debt, and she wants me to get a signature loan on top of the new mortgage payment. I would be paying the same I am paying now. If this is how Wells Fargo Home Mortgage treats Disabled Veterans, imagine how others will be treated there. Do yourself a favor, go to a Credit Union. They have rates that the big banks can't touch and you will get treated much better. These big banks got our tax dollars in a giant bank bailout and they treat there customers like that. After 8 years of doing all my banking with Wells Fargo, I am glad to go Credit Union. Thank you for reading my story.
