I just received a fax from Citiwide Lending Group letting me know that they have buyers looking to purchase homes in my area and wanting to know if it would be OK for them to refer these clients to me. If so I was to call the 800 number provided. Seemed like a good idea. I never thought that this was yet another scam to sell phoney leads. I've been selling real estate for years and have referred countless buyers to various lenders and mortgage brokers and have never asked for nor have I ever been offered a referral fee.
At first glance this looked legitimate but after a closer look I became suspicious as to why there was only a phone number provided on the Fax Cover. No other company information. No fax number, physical address, website or email information. I checked them out on the internet and was able to match the 800 number to a physical address in California. Then I found the other complaints. Thanks to all who have reported them. It seems to be the only way to put a stop to these sleazy predators who will keep taking advantage even in these troubled times.
