Tried to pass a fraudulent check for $3500

With a check from Sovereign Bank for $3500 did a little research myself on them and found nothing fraudulent then. I was to deposit the money, but they clearly messed up because they had me wait for the check to clear. Well today the check came back as fraud. The point of contact on this letter was a Ms Andrea Bates or Mr. Larry Phillips (if that is even their names) at 1-438-883-3500. The person that signed the letter was a Richard Walters.
