There are lots of companies out there now offering "free trial credit monitoring" services (check your credit reports, etc). These are usually a "30 day free trial offer" after which, if you don't cancel, they'll begin charging you a monthly fee. It is a great way to review your credit and then cancel "prior" to the expiration of the trial period, if you don't feel the service is worth the money.
UNFORTUNATELY, there are some unscrupulous companies out there, IdentityGuard.com, being one of them, who EVEN THOUGH YOU CANCEL continue billing your credit card. They are like many other sleazy businesses hoping that you won't notice the charges on your statement until they've collected several months of fee's. Then of course when you cancel they won't refund you back any of the past fee's, only agree to stop billing you.
