This business is the most unethical place I have ever dealt with. Tony, the owner comes across as someone that is nice, honest, and that you can believe what they say. We were supposed to make a payment on a loan on the 11th. The next morning, within two hours of the store opening, I called the business to see if I could make the payment. The owners wife stated that my name was not in the system.
So, I went down there to figure this out. She tells me that the name is not in the system, because the golf clubs had either been pulled from the system or sold. She tells me to call or come back at 2pm. I call back at 2pm. She tells me they were sold. How she didn't remember this from 3 hours before, is beyone me.in the past, on other things I had pawned.
Her husband Tony had personally told me that it didn't matter if I was a day or two late on a payment, that it was not big deal. He didn't mention it was only no big deal, if it wasn't a thousand dollar set of golf clubs he wanted and now apparently "with the economy the way it is, we have to pull them faster" as was repeated to me and my husband over and over as an excuse to sell our property on their whim.
I have never been so LIED to by someone. Tony's wife also had the audacity to hang up on on my husband as he tried to reason with them after I had visited the store for the second time. She also told him "I am not the same girl you spoke with earlier" even though I had been there within minutes of both my husbands phone calls and it WAS the same girl. Tony later confirmed this by stating "there is only one girl here, my wife", which we obviously were already aware of at that time.
Though understanding the risk taken with a pawn shop, after having given and referred business to this place, We feel completely ripped off and lied to by them and feel that there was absolutely no consistency with their verbal and written communication to us. Also, the way we were treated and lied to by them was completely unneccessary and its difficult to understand how a place that we trusted and frequented out of neccessity has treated us this way, even though they know us simply by sight after having been there numerous times. We can only imagine how they would treat someone that only goes in once and is 1 hour late on a payment.
In short, we feel that these guys dont practice what they preach and tell you what you want to hear, in order to further their own gain and its obvious by the numerous lies we were told by Tony's wife that they are hiding something and are not an honest business to deal with and would NOT reccomend anyone frequent this establishment, due to our percieved lack of ethics on their part.in short, take your business somewhere else, unless you want to be lied to and told what you want to hear until its too late and your stuff is gone for them to gain a few measly hunred dollars.
Lastly, when we called to ask Tony himself about the situation, he said that his wife told him "we hung upon her" and that "we were the ones not being reasonable" until she was put on the phone by Tony and confronted and at that point, did not deny what we were telling Tony and in fact told us once again, she was going to hang up on us again, very nice treatment and thanks for once again proving our point, which is, if you have nothing to hide, why are you lying about it?
Why not discuss it reasonably and rationally and make an ethical decision about your business. The only satisfaction from this entire dilemna comes from knowing that even if you are a pawn shop and if you are unethical, it is like any other business out there, eventually, it will bite you in the ass and come back on you and nobody can stick around for a long time when they treat people this way. Karma is real, it will come back to haunt you at some point...
