Pmt made too soon before billing cycle, posted to previous month, threfore late next month

I usually make 2 payments a month to credit card.in Sept. I made payment on 9-2. The billing cycle for this was 9-5. So, they posted to August payment (made two for August) this makes three for Aug. They sent me a bill showing late charge of $39.00 for non-payment in September. They have told me there is nothing they can do and will not remove late charge. I tried to get someone in charge, but they informed there was not.
