I had some problems a few years back and was out of work for several months. I want people to understand that I take full credit for destroying my credit woirthiness at that time and am not seeking any sympathy or for anyone to think that I am attempting to shirk my responsibility to pay the debts I incurred. Anyway, my credit was quite bad for some time and I made every effort to pay all of my bad debt off and thought that getting some low limit credit cards would help. Big mistake.
I applied for one credit card from first premier and got a limit of $250 with fees off $226 leaving me with $19 in credit. I figured it was a small price to pay and kept the card even though the fees seemed very high. I was sent two other cards by first premier I didn't ask for - both with the same high fees and low credit limit. I called about the other two and was told I had applied for them but didn't put up much resistance as I figured I would now triple my credit worthiness.
I have made all of the payments on time for seven months and have bought only assundry items on the cards - gas, grocery items etc - and almost every month I have been assailed with over the limit fees due to interest that puts me over the limit. I have also been talked to as though I were four years old by the good folks at first premier and have done some research and found that having my credit limit so close to it's actual limit every month is actually hurting my credit, even with my on time payments.
Now comes the good part - I finally realized that I should close the accounts and they won't let me do it! I call to close them and get bounced around, put on hold and eventually dis-connected. I write to them and receive no answer, I send emails to them and get the response, "We don't handle that via the website."
Can someone help me here? I was able to close my terrible account with the same problems at Cross Country but cannot seem to get it done at First Premier - I've got to get these accounts closed asap!
Also - a warning to prospective First Premier customers - avoind them like the plague! When all is said and done I will have paid over $1200 for three cards in fees for about $120 in purchases. That's 1000% interest in about 9 months. Stay away from these guys - they prey on we who have bad credit - you're better off getting a Bally's account or buying a wireless phone - Verizon or something.
