Have 2 HSBC cards, 1 with each division = Orchard and Metro. Sent in my first payment on the new card, along with payment on the existing via bill pay on the same day. Both payments were applied to the existing card, causing a late fee and interest rate hike on my brand new card totalling 35.99%.
Called 4 seperate times to customer service and explained I had confirmation numbers to prove I sent 2 seperate payments, and that payments were credited 4 days apart at HSBC indicating there was a problem when one was applied. Got 4 different stories on how to resolve, finally being told there was nothing they could or even would do if I showed them the confirmation numbers because the accounts were paid via online bill pay and the computer is "always right".
So I'm disputing the payment via Bank of America, including the late fee and interest assessed on a 0% for 6 months card, but no resolution yet. Bottom line, they do not want to help you, do not care about problem resolution, and most likely intentionally misapplied the payment to obtain additional fees and interest from a brand new card — which I made a payment to before even receiving the first statement.
I've spent over an hour of my time, been told they were researching the issue; only to find out they can't even view transactions between the two divisions of the company and can not make outgoing calls. So I had the CSR from India basically admit to me nothing was done and it was up to me to call back to find out that, when I thought steps were being taken to resolve my issue, they basically swept me under the rug.
Conclusion: with most large banks you're just a number in an illegible formula of how they can jerk money out of your hands at any given moment to up their portfolio. But at least with some banks they can see the different accounts you have with them and will attempt resolution of conflicts. HSBC will not, and cannot see any error in their own ways, nor can they see what's going on between two accounts you have with the same company. Don't waste your valuable time or money betting on good service.
