Liberty Mutual Homeowner's Insurance nightmare

I recently purchased a home. I am a first time homebuyer. Since I was new to the whole process of buying a home I didn't realize how important it is to get insurance quotes right away. As the closing day approached I was told that I must have a policy now in order to be able to close. I called a few companies including the one I have my car insurance with, Liberty Mutual.

They were the only ones responding within a timely manner with a quote. I actually didn't want to go with them because of what they did to me last year involving my car insurance with them, but that's another story.

After they called with the quote I accepted and my Rep, Steven Wyatt wrote the policy.

I was able to close on the house and Liberty Mutual was paid for the entire year for the homeowner's policy.
I thought that all was well and dismissed my bad feelings involving the experience from the car insurance policy issues with them. I thought that after the year is up I can switch to another company and have plenty of time to investigate which one I wanted.

Lo and behold Liberty Mutual in action.

No more than a month had passed and they cancelled my homeowner's policy effective Dec 5th. They took 808 Dollars and cancelled me after about a month.
Now for the big question, WHY???
I had to call repeatedly to get some answers.
From the cancellation notice it seemed as if I had filed a claim on the house in May when in reality I was living happily in an apartment.

After many calls I found out that according to Liberty Mutual's policy they will not write a homeowner's policy if a house had claims within the last three years, whether filed by me or SOMEONE ELSE.

Huh???

So now the other big question is, why did they approve the policy in the first place???
Well this is where I smell a rat.

Maybe, they would like to pull the double your money' trick that they pulled with my car insurance???
The salesguy Steven Wyatt, too busy thinking of commissions I assume, didn't or didn't fully check the CLUE report and just went ahead and wrote it. Let the chips fall where they may. It's not his problem.
I was totally shocked.

By his own admission, he made a mistake and he apologizes.
Well, I won't have my money back until next year.in the meantime I have to come up with another policy pronto or
my Mortgage Company will force insurance.

Now, how am I going to come up with another 800-900 Dollars?

I guess it's all the same to Liberty Mutual.

To them, we are all just sitting on our big stacks of money waiting for them to mess us around so we can spend more because of their mistakes.

I wouldn't be surprised that when it comes time to refund the money, there will be all kinds of fees and I'll hardly get any of it back.

As for my car insurance with them, last year in May when it was time for renewal they send me a cancellation notice. They said I had four wrecks in 2 years and put all that on the CLUE report including 2 times I used them for Roadside assistance (battery boosts due to bad battery) all this counted against me.

What they had done is, they took my Ex-Husbands wrecks with substantial claim amounts and reported them as being MY wrecks. I am the policy holder, yes, BUT they were not MY wrecks and should not have been reported as mine.
I called them immediately but was told they will absolutely NOT reconsider. I pleaded with them, saying that they made a mistake, those were not my wrecks, but they would not hear me.

I didn't even know anything about CLUE reports until I called to get insurance with another company. Because of them putting all the wrecks in my name, I was given quotes of 1300-1400 a year for bare-bones liability insurance.

My friends told me to keep calling them. I did.
Then all of a sudden they reversed their decision and said, yes it does seem that those wrecks were my Ex's and they would renew my policy BUT it would be DOUBLE what it was before. Well double was still better than 1300-1400 a year. I accepted.

In the meantime I gathered evidence that they made a mistake and disputed my CLUE report. They were pretty surprised that I KNEW something about CLUE because they had told me that this report could not be changed after the fact, never even calling it CLUE report. To me who doesn't know much about the industry it sounded as if this report couldn't be touched.

I found out about the CLUE report from one of the agents that gave me a high quote and they felt sorry for me when I told them what Liberty Mutual had done.

My advice is to stay away from this company. I realize they are all in it for the money and not to help us BUT I don't think anyone deserves this kind of bad treatment.
