No Help With Identity Theft!

I found out my identity had been stolen when I received a credit alert from Truecredit showing that First Premier Bank had pulled a copy of my credit report. Since I don't do business with them and hadn't applied for anything with them, I called the credit bureau. Someone had applied for a credit card with First Premier using my name, ss# and date of birth, but a different address and phone numbers that were not mine.

I immediately called First Premier Bankcard expecting them to be glad I caught the ID theft so quickly. (Called them one day after it had been pulled) They were not helpful! I asked for the "identity theft division." They don't have one. They have a security department that they won't let you speak with. The customer service reps won't help you. They even wanted me to give them my correct address and phone numbers for the application and were angry when I refused.

I told them I had already placed fraud victim alerts on all three credit bureau reports and had called the sheriff's office to do a report. I asked them what I needed to do in order to request the information on the application so that it could be investigated. Over the course of several days, I was told my at least 10 different employees of First Premier that there was no way for me to request this information. I was told that my local sheriff's office would have to issue a subpoena.

When the sheriff's investigator called me, I informed her that they wouldn't cooperate and she would have to subpoena the information. She did and a week later received a letter back stating that they did not accept subpoenas from any state except South Dakota and that the victim would have to request the information. That's exactly what I wanted to do and was told over and over that I could not do.

They have ignored two letters already and they are horribly rude when I call. I am now sending the letters and other information by certified mail, return receipt requested. They won't give me a time frame on getting back with me and they won't remove the fraudulent inquiry from my credit report.

By refusing to help the victims of identity theft, they are aiding the criminals and making it harder for law enforcement to apprehend them.
