Chase Screwed Me and Then Kept Screwing Me After I Changed Banks

I had been with Chase for about a year and had no problems. The people at the branch I belonged to were also prompt and courteous. This all changed when I went to study abroad in Paris for 5 months. About two months in I lost my debit card and credit card.

I was fine for a while because I had some cash, but after about a month I was nearly broke. I called Chase and told them I lost it and they said they would send me a new card right away. I wait a week and a half and then call them again. They say they don't know what happened but they will send another one. Again, I wait about a week. I called them again and the representative told me "Oh, we don't send ATM cards to countries outside of the United States." Despite the fact that I had two separate people tell me they would do such a thing before. Not only that, but the person told me that the other two people hadn't even filed a report.

I begged the person to send me a card. I told them I would run out of money in the next few days and that I had no way to buy groceries. They told me point blank that there was no way to send a card to me, even though I was literally begging them and telling them that one of their customers was going to go without food. They told me sorry and I hung up.

I called back and asked to speak to a customer service representative to complain. I was connected to somebody and asked how I could file a complaint. They informed me that there was no way to do this. So not only could I have get a new card because of one of their policies, there was no avenue for me to complain about this policy.

Finally, I had one of my friends go to my house in the United States and mail me the card they had sent to my house in Chicago after I had to borrow $200 from somebody in Paris that I had recently met.

Flash forward to when I get back to the U.S. I immediately closed my Chase account. The manager tried to keep me asking me about 10 times "Are you SURE you want to close your account? Isn't there anything we can do to keep you here?" I told them they could've easily done something by sending me a credit card when I was in France.

After I had closed out my account I thought I had washed my hands of Chase bank and all the trouble they caused me. I was wrong.

Flash forward about 8 months to today when I start getting calls from people telling me that they are from Chase credit cards and that I have a negligent balance and that it is negatively affecting my credit report. I called my bank to see if this was a scam or not and they said that it was not. They said that I had on overdraft of $50 from last year and that it has been adding up interest and late fees ever since then.

When I closed my account I made absolutely certain that it was all closed out and that there was no remaining balances. The branch manager told me that it was all settled.

Now they're saying that I had a remaining balance on my credit card which had been amassing fees and is now close to $400 resulting from an overdraft last summer.
