National City Bank
Charged OD fee when my account was not overdrawn!

I looked at my account this morning (Friday, 11/16) to find that I had been charged a $34 overdraft fee, leaving my balance at the end of the day at -$26. Xx. After transferring money from my savings account to bring my balance account positive, I called the 800 # to ask why I was charged when I had sufficient funds to cover all items that came out of the account. As it turns out, there was an item scheduled to be withdrawn from my account next Monday, 11/19, for $20.01. Because the company had already sent the item to the bank for processing, they deducted it from my available balance. Since I didn't have enough money yesterday to cover the item that is being taken out 3 days from now, I had to pay the bank $34 for the inconvenience.

I understand being charged if the money is not there when it is supposed to be, but this is ridiculous! I had every intention of making sure that money was there by Monday (I put the money in the bank today!), but I didn't realize that I had to have funds available to pay for something 4 days before the bank is even scheduled to take the funds out of my account! At least this was the final push I've needed for a long time to leave this horrible bank and join a credit union. I just want to make sure that other people out there are warned and don't have to pay for the bank's stupid policies.

One thing I do have to note here, though, is that the person I talked to on the phone was very friendly and helpful. Her tone was very apologetic, and it's not her fault the bank's policies are stupid. I feel terrible for the people who actually have to defend and uphold these policies and hope that everyone will remember not to take out their frustrations on them.
