June 16 I was contacted by an individual with a deep booming voice stating that he was a lawyer (do lawyer's make their own phone calls?) from the law offices of Frederick J Hanna. He was calling to collect on an alleged debt he said I owed.
I immediately stopped him by telling him that the alleged debt was in dispute and I did not wish to discuss the situation with him on the phone and advised him to send me a certified letter regarding the matter. He told me a letter had already been sent out and he had every right to discuss the matter with me and demanded payment on the debt.
Having recently recovered from a stroke, I proceded to tell him that I did have the right to invoke my rights under the Consumers Fair Credit Collection Protection Act, and I did not want to receive any more phone calls from his office. This person disregarded my statement and began to acuse me of viloating an agreement with Bank of America to repay my account. I informed him that Bank of America was the violating party having disregarded my attempts to collect on the insurance policy I purchased through them to make payments on my account in the event of my illness or death. Actually, I had credit insurance on all of my accounts in the event that something ever did happen to my husband or myself so we would be protected.
What a rip-off that was! Not one company honored their policy. All those years of paying 0.83-0.90 cents on the hundred dollar was a scam. Every account found whatever loop hole they could find not to pay. Needless to say I'm reporting all of them to my states department of insurance.
The man on the phone was making snorting sounds that I guess was laughter as he continued to tell me that my claims had nothing to do with further collection on this account. He than started to play, "name that price". He was going to be my friend and help me with a "one time take it or leave it offer" to reduce the amount of the debt he would collect. I told him to send it to me in writing and not to call me anymore.
I never received a letter, but he called again twice June 17th, twicw June 18th, June 21st, 22nd, 25th and 26th. I blocked his number from my house, but he still got throught July 10th two times (today) before calling my immediate superviser at work (I've been on medical leave since September 22).
I still haven't received any correspondence from this company and they refuse to stop calling and harrassing me and now I guess they are going to try to embarrass me by calling my job, I guess family is next. A recent glance at my credit report shows them as making inquiries.
