Deceptive simple forebearance procedures ripoff

WAMU promised me a simple forebearance when I dislocated my shoulder, but indicated that they needed paperwork filled out. The paperwork was sent to the wrong address and after 10 days, I contacted them, at which time I discovered their "error". I indicated to them that paperwork should be sent to the property address. When I received the paperwork, they asked for volumes of financial data, and the letter indicated that the paperwork must be received by them within 10 days of when the letter was sent, which took 5 days to get to me.

I sent them the information requested, and then was told they did not receive the paperwork in time and the forebearance file had again been closed. At that point, they put any payments from me into a suspense account and reported the account as late, which torpedoed my credit, preventing me from refinancing the house to get WAMU out of my life. They then asked for a good faith lump sum check of $65,000 which on re-reading their letter, indicated that it might take the house out foreclosure.

When the check for $65,000 cleared, the house was immediately put into foreclosure with a pending sherriff's sale. I had to declare personal bankruptcy to prevent the sherriff's sale, which totally torpedoed my credit rating for the next 10 years.
