I got a call this evening from a man that said that I was to recieve a Government Grant for $5,000.00. I immediatly ask what the catch was. Of course he said there was none. He said that these free grants were the governments way of paying back people that regulary paid their taxes.
He then asked me to verify my name, address, E-mail address, and phone number. I verified each one after asking several questions of my own.
He then asked me to get a pen and paper and had me write down his employer's name, address, Web site address, Phone number, and his employee number.
He then asks for the bank routing number which I refuse to give him. He convinced me that the safest way for every one is to have the grant direct deposited into my bank account.
I finally agreed and gave him the routing number. He then asked for the account number. Again I refused and again he convinced me that it was the safest way to make sure that I recieved the money.
He now goes into his speal about how the money will arive in my account in about 6 weeks and "There will be a one time fee of $ 299.00." I interupted and asked why I was being charged $ 299.00 for a free grant.
I told him that I refused his free grant because I refused to pay the fee. He said not to worry because I could pay it any time in the next week. I argued that now he had the bank info and could take it when he wanted and he said that was impossible without my consent.
I told him that I refused to consent and I refused to argue further. I said goodbye and hung up.
He immediatly called back and said that we had been disconected. I said "No, I hung up. I am sorry that you waisted your time and mine, Goodbye." and hung up again.
I then got on my computer to see if I could find out more about this company and discover that there is no such web site and the more I read the more I realized that I had been conned.
