I have a checking account with Washington Mutual in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I deposited a check for $2300 to my account on March 23. The bank that the check was drawn on paid the check on March 26. At the time I made the deposit, I had a balance of $1200.
As of March 29 the money was still not in my account. I had to call the bank 3 times and always got the same apology and that's our policy sir routine. I had to go the branch with a statement from the issuing bank showing that the money was cleared on the 26th.
Finally on March 30 the money showed up in my account. Where was the money for those 4 or 5 days when it was out of the issuing bank but not in my bank. If Washington Mutual practices this policy with a few thousand people, they are making the interest on possible millions of dollars for that period of limbo.
I just don't get it. If I write a check at the supermarket for groceries, the money is out of my account in 2 or 3 days. Is anyone else experiencing this kind of situation?
