I work at the Geico office in Amherst NY and I can attest to the fact that it is a horrendous place to work. If your supervisor doesn't like you GOD help you!!! While working there I was constantly harrased.
If you are not deemed worthy enough to join any of the cliques there then they make your life a living hell. I know of one supervisor there named Alex that is having a inappropriate relationship with a rep named Heather despite the fax that he is married w/children.
Also Geico routinely promotes people that are not qualified into supevisory and management posseions and then wonders why we have such problems with PFC as geico calls (professionalism friendliness and courteousness). Also a supervisor named Leta on the team a couple sections over from mine allowed an associate I believe her name was raquel to be paid for a full day of work despite the fact that she did nothing but sit and cry and be consoled by some coworkers and the supervisor because her boyfriend had recently dumped her. (I know for a fact that if this was anyone else we would have been told to get to work, or made to go home w/o pay!!! This was on 11/03/06 I believe. That day there almost a 100 calls on hold, yet she was allowed to sit around and cry and be a distraction to workers who were not lucky enough to have a friend as a supervisor. And if that weren't bad enough This same supervisor allowed another associate named kristy to come in late even while on a warning for dependibility. (A dependibility warning with GEICO means if you are even a minute late within the 3 to 6 mths of the warning period, you will be fired). But not so if you are friends with your supervisor. This particular associate's supervisor let her come in late numerous times while on warning. And miraculously even after a warning She still comes in late. She also allowed raquel to recieve pay w/o working and Kristy to be repeatedly late and then let her lie and say it was for FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) so that she wouldn't be fired) This supervisor in addition to others (i admit I am afraid to name them at this time) and I'm just talking about Interpersonal things. I don't think there is enough space to write all the illegal things I have seen @ geico w / management approval such as harassing policyholders to buy unwanted coverage repeatedly whenver they call despite then saying they saying they did not want or need it. Or adding coverages such as road service or rental cars w/o their knowledge, and switching coverages so they can later jack up rates. And this isn't even the worst of it. Geico management claims to ethical yet they allow these things to take place and if you do not do these things aforementioned, you are threatned w / your job. People cancel their policies in droves once they realize they been baited and switched... Once I quit I will definately report this to the NYS department of Insurance and the Attorney Genrals office but for now I am saving my paycheck.
