I was contacted by Capital 1St and told that I had been excepted for a Master Card that had been applied for. As I had applied for one in the past I assumed this was legit. After telling me it would cost $29.95 for a one time processing fee, I gave them my debit card # to automaticaly withdraw the fee. Then I was told that I would be recieving some free trial offers of phone cards, airline miles etc, etc.
To my horror when the package arrived it was obvious that this was a ripoff. I called immediately and canceled. Recieved a cancelation # and returned the package. It is now July 7 and I have discovered that $59.95 was attempted to come out of the account. I was smart enough to not put any more money in the account in case something like this happened. Now I have $17.50 charged to my account (which is overdrawn now) along with the loss of the money that was originaly taken. Plus the cost of mailing.
Now I have recieved something from Hartford Auto Club that says they will be charging me $99.00 for their services. So I get to spend all day on the phone tomorrow canceling something else that should not coming to me in the first place. These people have quite a scam going and it is going to cost me a whole lot more than $29.95 to get it corrected. I can not believe that I was so stupid as to buy into this. Hopefully enough complaints and this ripoff company can be put out of business.
