This company has contacted me in a round about manner. Very strange if you must know. I have not resided with my parents for over 24 years and have married and changed my name. For some reason they have contacted my mother leaving a phone number on her answering machine. The caller ID on the machine identified the call as coming from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Not recognizing the company as one of our debtors I called the number.
During my first call to the phone number I was immediately met by an automated system requesting that you have your control #, routing # and account # ready. I refused to enter any keypad information on the phone and just kept requesting an operator into the automated system. I was finally transferred to someone and I inquired as to why they were calling a certain phone number. I did not identify myself fully.
They stated that someone named "xxxxx" owed them fees. I inquired for what? They stated that I had written a check to "xxxxx", a local grocery store, on August 23 for the $ xx. Xx and that there was not sufficient funds in the account to cover the check at that time. I then inquired about the check # and they rattled off Ck #711. Well... I never started my checks using numbers lower than 1000 so I knew this call was fraudulant. Besides that I have my statements and checks from 2003 and there are no NSF or bounced check charges on my account.
I then proceded to tell the individual on the other end that this obviously was not my check and suddenly she "hung-up" on me very abrubtly. I called my mom to tell her not to answer any phone calls from this company or give out any information.
Curiosity was getting to me, I then called back a second time. My second conversation gleaned more information... Some how this company had this check having been written in 2003 by me with my maiden name, giving the same check # and dollar amount. I told them the number they were calling was incorrect but did not give them a new number. They also proceeded to rip off an address that isn't even my mother's address. Then they just suddenly hung up AGAIN.
MY RECOMENDATION: Do not give this company any information. I read a posting by someone else who had a similar experience this past September. Following is the link to their report and some of the things are similar.

Obviously someone is trying to scam information from people. Be it an employee of this company or the company themselves. BEWARE!!!
I am going to the bank and police to report this tomorrow as well so that they are informed that some how this company got partial information on me and are trying to use it to scam my account numbers and to not release that information without my permission even if this "so called" company is a check payment recovery company.
