Misleading Interview Process ripoff

During June I interviewed with Mano Marketing, Inc. Through the ad on careerbuilder.com, I was led to believe that the job I was interviewing for was related to graphic design and advertising. Little did I know that it had nothing to do with either.

The first interview, if you can call it that, consisted of sitting with Katherine Zeinz for between five to ten minutes. She spoke at a mile a minute, and, as hind-sight is always twenty-twenty, I see now why she did this. She made sure that I was unable to follow her and did not give me a chance to speak. If I had been able to ask questions, I think I would not have wasted my time with the second interview.

Katherine tried to dazzle me with promos for the Chicago White Sox and Papa John's Pizza—the promos being coupon books, which were poorly designed. I was rather skeptical, but when I received a phone call later that evening from Katherine telling me that I'd made it into the second round of interviews, I figured I'd give it a shot.

She neglected to say that on the second interview I would have the pleasure of going door to door with one of her employees to sell Papa John's coupon booklets. She also didn't say that we would be doing this 30 miles away from Mano Marketing's office. She cannot be blamed for the 90 degree heat that we walked in for 8 hours that day. Rob, the employee I was shadowing for the day, was not a bad guy, but he did happen to ask inappropriate questions and make some comments about prospective customers that were less than professional OR honest.

We ate lunch at 2 PM at McDonald's in Greenwood, IN. I dislike McDonald's and, of course, had to pay for my own meal, since I suppose Mano Marketing does not think enough of its interviewees to provide them with lunch.

We eventually returned to Mano Marketing's office. I had arrived for the interview at 10 AM that morning and I was finally able to go home at almost 11 PM. I was not compensated in any way for the 13 hour day. There were 5 other prospective employees who went through the same hell as I did. I was offered a third interview, which I declined. I do not expect that any of the other five people would have accepted either.

So, a word to the wise: If you are contacted by Mano Marketing, Inc.in Indianapolis, IN, do not interview with them. I truly believe that this company is a scam and have reported them to the BBB.
