I'll be the first to admit that I don't have perfect credit. I've had lates and medical collections, all from a period of about 3-4 years in length (about 3-4 years ago) when my wife had 3 open-heart surgeries. Let me tell you it isn't easy to avoid declaring bankruptcy from the non-insurance part of $500K in medical bills.
I just had a Palisades collection item show up on my credit report last month, for $303, allegedly from an old AT&T Wireless account. I've had AT&T in the past and just dumped them about a year ago when I moved to AZ because they don't cover near my house. That account was settled up in full.
I have had this same $303 AT&T Wireless charge show up on my credit before, though. When going for a mortgage when I moved out here, there was a $303 charge but I don't recall the collection agency. I got the loan but the title company help back money to pay off the debt. Several months later, I got the money back because they were never able to verify and pay it.
Anyway, the charge disappeared from my credit for a while (perhaps from a bureau dispute). I refinanced about 6 months ago, and there it was again! Same process... I had money withheld and got it back several months later because they couldn't find anyone to pay it to.
Each time I called AT&T to ask if they had *ANY* record of me owing them *ANY* money *EVER*. Each time I was told "no."
This is terrible timing because I am preparing to move from one area of Phoenix to another, and I am FINALLY getting my FICO scores out of the basement. This is pushing them RIGHT back down again! I plan on pursuing every available avenue against these guys (FTC, state AG, etc).
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE contact me if you have any knowledge of a class action against these blood-suckers. I'm in all the way.
