I called the toll free number on the TV. She was so helpful. I didn't want to settle for pennies on the dollar-I had recently discovered that I had not filed in the last six years. Someone I trusted let me down. They said we can help. I send 525 dollars. The next week I get a bill for more money.
I also told them my ripoff landlord filed bankruptcy and now after five years and I have to move. They said gee that's awful no problem in the same breath. I scrape together another 525 dollars at the end of the month by using one of my daughter's credit cards and giving her the money back to make sure that Roni Deutch got her money by the agreed on date.
I had paid taxes in over these years but did not have the right withholding taken out so I knew I owed something - at least 5,000 dollars. No problem sir we can help.
Then I get a packet of documents in the mail to fill out. I put on my glasses and start reading about them not supplying legal services for you to the IRS. I read about them charging 600 dollars if you move while you are retaining their services. I read about them preparing an offer to the IRS.
I go to the IRS website and find out that I along with almost everybody else except for the most extreme cases are not eligible for this program.
So the people at Roni Deutch that I told my troubles to knew from the outset that they weren't going to help me. So I am sitting at work the next week at the sales counter, phone in one hand and mouse in the other, and I get a call for me from Chris in accounting. He proceeds to tell me the next payment deadline is approaching and wants to know when it can be expected.
When I started telling him there was going to be a problem with the next payment until we get a clear understanding of what I had hired them to do. He tried to interrupt me and actually used the phrase "you will" in his demand to me for payment. I put him on hold because my daughter calls in on the other line-to tell me some guy named Chris had just called her demanding money on her credit card number that they still had even though they were supposed to have discarded the number from the time before. Being 8 months pregnant and crying was all I needed to make up my mind. I switched back and told Chris they were no longer needed and in true US Army fashion told him plenty else.
I sent a written request to their home office demanding a partial refund minus a fair fee for some accounting. I also was so bold as to suggest that Chris reserve his aggressive demeanor and assertive mouth for the IRS instead of the people they seemed so eager to help.
Anyway I received a reply that said what I said was simply untrue. I also found out how much it costs for the backbreaking task of putting my name on a form letter stored in a computer ($105.00). Multiply this times the number of useless documents prepared and by golly I owe them another 105 dollars! So now not only am I lying I owe more money.
I will say to you now that I called them and after depleting my drill-sergeant vocabulary I begged them to come get the money and my only regret was not being able to make the trip to California for a lesson in manners they would never forget. I had read on the net about them sending people to problem customer's homes.
I fought for their right to be bottom-feeders and I can promise they will pay me back if not in money in bad publicity. I don't pretend to be perfect or better than anyone else but what am I supposed to think? At least they didn't get me for the other couple grand! And if anyone using them now is having problems with them returning calls just leave an angry message and see how quickly they call back! Thank you for listening and maybe this will help others.
