I went to pay the interest on a pawn ticket on the last day before the loan became delinquent and I found a sign on the pawnshop door stating "gone shopping for a couple of things, back soon".
I went to the bank and came back 45 minutes later and the sign was still up.
I went home and an hour later called to the pawnshop and spoke to a female. I asked if anybody would be in the pawnshop tomorrow. She asked "why do you ask?"
I told her I had come down to pay and nobody was there, and I added, "That's no way to run a business."
She said, "Is it your business?"
I told her that I had the reasonable right to expect that they would be open during the hours they post as being open and that I have an item in their possesion that becomes past due the next day and that I wouldn't have been fined $3.00 for past due if they had been in the store.
She got irate and told me that it's none of my business.
The next day I went in to pay the get the item out of pawn and she informed me that it was "in foreclosure".
I told her that I came down the previous day to pay the interest but nobody was there, and she said "Oh, you're the guy from the phone call yesterday." I said "I don't know what you're talking about." She said "You're going to pay extra. I'm adding an additional $10 to your bill."
I said that would be illegal and I went next door to call the police. Well it turns out that next door was owned by the same guy who owns the pawnshop and he accompanied me back to the pawnshop and told the woman to give me my bass (the item pawned) for the usual amount.
She refused, and I had to pay an additional $10 to get it out. Before I left she started to tear off a tag that was taped to my bass case and said "You don't want to take any store trash with you." I replied "No, I'm leaving you here."
