SunTrust Bank
Accounts frozen for three weeks over a tax refund deposit

SunTrust Bank has frozen my accounts. I am a professional tax preparer. I prepared a few family members' and friends' returns and had their refunds deposited into my account upon their request, so I could receive my fee and so they could receive their refunds faster. Since SunTrust has run into tax fraud, I was advised by a SunTrust financial advisor rep to open a business account to conduct my business. I did so, but a few days later I was out using my debit card and was told by the cashier that my card was unauthorized. I called SunTrust customer service and found out that my account was frozen. The next day I went to my local branch, only to be told they had no idea what was going on.

Later that day, when I was at home, I received a call from a SunTrust branch manager from the location in Southaven questioning me about a woman whose refund of $377.XX had been deposited into my account. I explained that I did not know this woman and that it must have been a mistake somewhere, but if that happened, please just debit her funds out of my account. Being a tax preparer, I am competent to know that IRS refunds can be traced. So why would I bank money and also make deposits if I were involved in fraudulent activity?

It is going on 3 weeks and I am being held liable for someone else's mistake. I do not have access to my account and I am not able to disburse refunds to 2 of my 4 clients. I explained to my local branch that I can help with the investigation and bring each of my clients to the branch along with their IDs and SSNs to show I have complete authorization to complete their returns and have the refunds deposited into my account. SunTrust has not given me any information and has been very rude to me. I have banked with SunTrust off and on for the past 7 years and I have never been involved with any fraudulent activity. This bank is so unprofessional and incompetent, and I have no idea why they are still in business.
