First, I have 6 months of sobriety. Alcohol was causing me problems, so it was time to go to AA meetings and quit drinking. This also meant no more going to bars and liquor stores, places that serve or sell alcohol as a primary function.
Well, now it looks like the San Diego Zoo Safari Park is another place that might get entered onto my "Not safe for AA members" list. I was walking around the park, and one of the vendors looked me straight in the eye, and said something like, "You look like you need a beer." Well, that was the last thing that I expected to hear at a place like the Wild Animal Park. Sure, in a bar you expect someone to offer you a beer, that's what they are in business for. The Wild Animal park is not in the business of selling alcohol, they are in the travel and tourism business. It only happened once that day, so might go back in a month and see if it happens again.
The Wild Animal Park needs to do a better job about training their vendors. If someone asks for a beer, you get them one. If they aren't asking for beer, don't push it on them. Some people have a problem with alcohol, and telling someone they look like they need a beer is not a good business practice, unless you're operating a bar.
