I got a phone call this morning which started with a message saying "You have won a free cruise!" I had to push nine to proceed to an operator. I did and spoke to a lovely woman (forget her name at the moment). She informed me that not only had a won a free cruise, I had also won the chance for 80% off resorts in Florida. She asked for my phone number (in case we were "disconnected" - shockingly, we eventually were!), which I gave, although a bit suspiciously.
Through all of this she congratulated me. I, of course, being of a suspicious nature, kept saying "this sounds too good to be true", "I never win anything" etc. I wanted her to commiserate a bit, but she didn't. I mean, this was weird! She explained that this was a promotion to help tourism recover after the hurricane. Anyway, she told me I could "claim my prize" within the next 12-18 months. She also sent me to their web-site "bestusavacations.com" and had me scroll around a bit to see my magnificent "free vacation."
Finally she passed me on to a supervisor. When he came on he asked me how I was. I said "good, thanks. But I must admit I'm a bit shocked. This sounds too good to be true. Are you sure this isn't a scam?" Which was when I was hung up on. I didn't even realize it at first, since it was done so abruptly and quietly. Anyway, I'm assuming this was the point at which I would be asked for my credit card info. I didn't do that, but I'm still a bit upset I even gave my phone number.
I then came directly here to discover I wasn't the only one who had dealt with this company.
