I went to a resort in Punta Cana with my fiance. We were approached by someone displaying pictures of numerous resorts worldwide and stated that I can stay at those places a lot cheaper then through a travel agency or online. So my fiance and I went along with him. We walked to a Vaction Club office. They asked for some brief information, including family income. The first thing the sales person stated is that the orientation was not about time share and is completely different.
They sales agent professed a lot of things, including I could travel to any allegro-occidental resort as part of my membership. And also, all my friends and family could use the membership. We could all be at different countries in the same time if we wanted. But as I researched the information when I got home, most of the information was inaccurate or had specifications (like having to listen to a presentation). I also noticed negative reports on the Better Business Bureau's report. So I tried to secure a refund. The contract stated one could be given in five days. They stated no refund could be given at all.
To sum it short, I cancelled my contract and sent a letter as they requested. But I continued to get bills. I also received numerous phone call stating I'm delinquent on my loan. (Though I didn't take a loan. I offered to pay the 7k in 3 payments at the time of the contract). There were no bank promisory notes and no interest rates. It was all part of the big scam.
Even though they received my cancellation letters, they wanted to make it look like I defaulted on a loan so that they could keep my initial deposit and harass me about making further payments. I took the issue to court and am in the process of trying to get my money back.
