I agree with other complaints and am ready to join in for a class-action lawsuit against Private Workout for their deceptive practices regarding membership fees. I used a Groupon for a Six Week Gut Buster program and immediately upon entering was hard pressure selling to sign up for the 100 workout program telling you you don't have to pay a membership fee if you complete a number of workouts or if less reduce your amount. If you cancel you have to pay over $200.
First off, they do not keep track of your workout except by giving you a workout sheet that you can barely read much less fill out as you are rushing from one small room to another. I designed my own workout log which the trainer was impressed with and even gave it to other customers because it was easier to read and fill out. I was told I could just keep my workout logs and turn them in at the end of the course to prove how many workouts I actually did. Nothing on computer! No way they can track properly. They didn't even have a sign-in sheet at first so no one knew you were even there! The rooms were not clean and no cleansing wipes to clean machines as you moved with others into each room. Some machines were so dirty with sweat and who knows what else! I worked out for 4 months 4 times a week, keeping my own logs. I had an accident and could no longer do that strenuous of exercising. I kept paying my monthly dues in hopes of eventually going back but after a year, decided it wasn't worth the money. I emailed to let them know I was interested in cancelling and they then tried to immediately charge my bank account over $200 even though I paid them $370 for the whole year I made monthly payments! My bank denied their attempt (thank God) and I wrote them telling them I shouldn't have to pay this amount (you can't get a live person on the phone). They wrote me saying my account WAS NOT CLOSED and to fill out an Appeal Form if I wanted to cancel and they would consider waiving the fee. Also they said if I would give them high praises about their company they make sure I could get my fee waived. A BRIBE! When I didn't fill out their form a couple of weeks later after taking my monthly dues payment again, they put the fee through my debit card again which my bank accepted this time. They didn't notify me that they were doing this and I was still an active member according to their email to me. When I tried to contact their office (which is very difficult to get a live person) only one person Edith was in charge. She had no sympathy towards my financial hardship because my accident and of them taking the money out without my authorization and she admitted she saw all my emails and voicemails to them about my accident and how I couldn't work out since October. She was rude and wouldn't do anything to refund that fee except to say if I would now write an Appeal praising Private Workout they would refund the fee or part of it. I am not giving Private Workout any undo praises as I think they are a big RIP OFF! BUYER BEWARE horrible customer service and deceptive sales practices. She wouldn't give me the name of her supervisor either! She is just the office manager. They don't reveal who owns the company or who their superiors are. I plan to do whatever it takes to get my money back from this greedy heartless company!
