I purchased a Movado Amorosa Bangle watch in 2003. The cost, including tax, was $334.96.
In February the watch band broke. The pin connecting the face to the bracelet just fell out.
I took it to Littman Jewelers at the Quakerbridge Mall where I originally purchased it. They said they had to mail it to Movado for repair estimate. It would take 4-6 weeks. I could decide at that time to repair or not.
I thought that was a long time to wait so I took it to a jeweler to repair it. One look and he hands it back like it was a hot potato!"You have to send this to Movado to repair." I thought that was odd, it was just a pin!
I took it to a second jeweler, and a third. Same story every time. They practically threw it back to me telling me to send it to Movado. One guy said, "We can't touch this."
Finally, I went to the Littman Jeweler in Neshaminy Mall, PA. After several weeks they called and said they had the repair estimate. $400!!! $400 to fix a watch that cost only $334.96 to begin with!
Obviously Littman and Movado want you to buy a new watch. I have a $39 Ironman Timex that I've had for years that still works. Too bad the expensive Movado is such crap and the company scares jewelers from repairing them.
