ETax.com advertises FREE income tax filing and direct deposit of refunds. HOWEVER, there is a tab on that home page that reveals their actual fee schedule for preparation of tax forms; Randging from a free one to deluxe and premium packages. Apparently, you have no way of knowing that you do not qualify for a FREE filing until the entire return is completed. I am receiving Social Security and had one wage statement; No deductions or special forms. At the end of the return, a screen offered a Deluxe filing package and asked me how I wanted to pay for it. Since I was still under the impression that this was a free filing, I hit continue to skip that step. ETax then charged me $29.95 for a "Deluxe" return preparation and another $65 to have that fee deducted from my refund. This is unconscionable business practice. I believe that the web site is intentionally misleading and confusing for the user.
