I fell for the internet come on to get a "free" copy of Aftershock for just $4.95 shipping and handling from Newsmax. Part of the offer included "free trial subscription" to other Newsmax publications—Moneynews.com, The Franklin Profile and Gold Stock Advisor, which I could cancel (unsuscribe) during the trial period.
Once Newsmax gets your credit card number, they will try to bill you for all of these publications and there is no way to unsuscribe. You get daily emails from these publications and from Newsmax.com (at least 4 emails each day). I have unsuscribed from all over the provided email link but unsuscribe does not work.
I disputed the $4.95 charge with my credit card company and asked Newsmax to stop sending all the emails and not to charge the card for additional publications with the credit card representative on the line. Still, the emails continue over one week later. And I fear that I have to ask my credit card company to cancel my current card or change the card number to stop Newsmax from trying to charge me for more publications that I do not want.
This site and others on the internet are full of complaints about this crooked practice, many from people who have been charged for electronic newsletters they do not want. Newsmax and other scammers/crooks like them ought to be outlawed. Although I haven't lost any money (yet), Newsmax has wasted hours of my time. I will be filing a complaint with the Florida Attorney General, the FBI and others to stop this crooked business!
