On approximately 4/27 I signed on to the Web site Instantcheckmate.com, because I am having major problems with my neighbors. I know that I signed up for 1 (one) month at $14.99. I received a bill on my credit card for $89.16. I would never sign up for something somewhat frivolous like this, for that price; I am unemployed.
When I called, the customer service person was rude. When I asked basic questions and said I was going to go back and look at information from when I opened account, she said "do you want this refund or not?!? If I give it to you, you can't call back and ask for it again", or some such nonsense. I believe that no reputable company would speak to their customers like that.
She told me the amount she would refund me and when I questioned that, she switched me over to "Michael". Michael tried to explain things to me, but I was becoming pretty suspicious. I looked in my e-mail on the day I signed up for Instantcheckmate, and there was no e-mail at all. Michael said it probably went into my junk e-mail folder. I doubt it.
I asked Michael to send me a copy of the member information I saw when I signed up, but he sent me an e-mail that I suspect is bogus - because it had the total of $89.16 on it which I never, EVER saw.
I looked at their ads today, 6/12, and all of the amounts are different than even what "Michael" and CSR said on the phone today.
Bottom line: Its a crime to charge more than customer agrees to. Deceptive advertising. Possibly falsifying documents (e-mail), and rudeness like this always generates suspicion.
