John seemed like a nice person when he first came to our home to provide an estimate for repairing some light fixtures in our kitchen. He decided to purchase the new lights himself and asked for $100 up front.
A week later he made an appointment to return to our home. He never showed up and did not call. We called a few days later. He said he was busy and would be out later in the week. When he finally arrived, he did not have the new lights. He said the other lights were too expensive and that he would just rewire our old ones. He said he was going to keep the $100 for his "research and shopping" time. Wow!
He and another worker spent 1 hour and 45 minutes to fix the existing lights. When he was done, he charged my wife for 3 hours of work for a total of $475. My wife felt intimidated and just payed him. I was not at home. When I called him to inquire about the overcharge, he tried to justify it by saying that it was because he has his own business and a lot of overhead to worry about. Wow!
Between the $475 and the initial $100, we ended up paying him almost $600 for less than 2 hours of actual work. I really feel he took advantage of that fact that he was dealing with a female. He should be ashamed of himself. The work he did was fine, he was just dishonest about the charges. I would recommend avoiding this company if I were you.
