I among many of maybe even millions of people have gotten these bogus letters, informing you of being a winner in a international sweepstakes. When the letter arrives it looks really legitimate. You would never even know it was a scam unless you looked into it.
I had gotten what looks like a original document letter and a check inside supposedly to pay the "applicable bond fees". Then goes on to tell you to call a number for your claim agent. Along further it tells you not to attempt to use the check until you call the phone number for your claim agent.
I did call the number and it was a gentleman that answered the phone, telling me I had to deposit the check, then call him back so they could send you the balance of your winnings.
I like some thought there was something very strange about this. I then called the Better Business Bureau, they informed me not to do anything, that it was possibly a scam.
Someone needs to stop these people, unlike me and a few others, people don't look into these things before they act. That leaves the elderly people who need money think that it is a very legitimate letter. Please if anyone gets these just throw it away or you will lose out on a lot of money.
