Personal Touch Moving & Transport
Misleading information, Poor Practices

Based on my submitted inventory, Personal Touch Moving & Transport provided me a binding estimate based on 6538 lbs. @. 50/lb. = $3269. A 10% fuel surcharge was also indicated on the quote. Total quoted amount was $3495.90. I knew there was more packing for me to do and there would be some additional weight and I packed everything "properly" for shipment. When the movers arrived, the lead person came in with a stack of documents for me to sign, indicating the move could not begin until they were all signed. Meanwhile, two movers were starting to move my belongings onto the truck. When I requested time to read them before I signed, I was told that the movers would stop working and it would significantly delay my shipment. Everything I was signing was in accordance with my estimate and provided me a brief description of what I was signing. I was unduly pressured to sign in order to meet my moving timeframe.

After the lead person examined my belongings, he told me the total charges would be around $7000, twice my quoted amount and that he would need 80% today. I was in shock as I had struggled to obtain the initially quoted amount with a little more added to cover additional weight. He then told me that I didn't pack my belongings "properly" for shipment and they would have to charge me for packing supplies that could run around $2000. I offered to sign a waiver releasing them from any damages to my "improperly packed" items and I was told per law they needed to do it.

I was charged $16.00 each for 42 moving pads (when unpacked, only 33 were counted) among rolls of tape and bubble wrap I cannot prove what was actually used. There were several items on my original inventory that did not ship which were not deducted from my total amount. I was being charged based on estimated cubic feet @ $3.50/cu. Ft. And not by weight as had been quoted.in order to pay him, I had to drain both my checking and savings accounts (designated for other expenses). He indicated if I didn't pay him at least 80%, my goods would be kept in storage at my expense until I was able to pay. The two movers didn't speak English so the lead had to instruct them. The lead was very rude and pushy and at the end of the move stated, "I know you're not happy with the move, but could you pay a tip for my guys." The guys did work well and deserved a tip, but I could not give anything more; especially, when he requested 10% of the total amount.
