We bought our puppy from Brushy Creek Kennels in February of she was born December. She became very sick within two days of bringing her home and we had to treat her for kennel cough... 2 bouts in 4 weeks. Cavaliers have been known to have heart problems so we had her checked and her heart was clear for 4 years, until April. Her annual exam turned up a level 3 heart murmur. Her breathing became increasingly labored and in July, our beautiful pet succumbed to a bad heart. We believe that her problems started from her birth. She also went deaf in 2008. We would strongly encourage a visit to the kennel before you buy one of their animals, something we did not do. There is so much inbreeding in Cavaliers that is causing all these problems. You need to get references from their customers who have dogs that are at least 8 years old, and yes, there are kennels with dogs that age.
We never want to have anyone go through the heartbreak of watching their loved pet die in front of you from a heart attack. She was not even six years old! We would not have taken a replacement puppy from this kennel even if it were offered.
There are many reputable breeders out there and if they are good ones, they will be able to give you references for dogs that have been alive for a long while. Please think twice before buying from this breeder!
