I signed a contract with Effectur back in September, for many thousand dollars to resolve an unpaid and unfiled federal and state tax return problem. Since then, they have broken almost every sinle promise they ever made.in over eight months time, all they ever did was complete one IRS and state tax return which I could have done myself using TurboTax in a few hours for free. They made glorious promises on their website (the September version) about their peace of mind guarantee and team approach to rapid customer response.instead, they are extremely unresponsive, do not return phone calls, do not respond to emails, or even bother to show up for scheduled telephone calls. If you are able to contact your "representative", which requires extreme amounts of time, patience and diligence, they are very unfamiliar with your case and provide very vague and evasive answers with no concrete action plan. They rarely follow up on action items or promises. At one point they lost all my returns and receipts! It was a nightmare re-acquiring all of this information.
For eight months they claimed that my state tax authorities were uncooperative and they could not resolve the issue. Finally, I contacted the state and completely resolved the issue myself in only a few phone calls. They made high sounding braggart-like statements about their expert tax team and cutting edge customer service.instead, the IRS continues to send me escalating penalty and interest notices making my tax situation many times worse than when I hired this company. I had a hard time due to multiple layoffs, and other problems, and got behind in taxes when I originally signed up with Effectur. I wanted to believe they would deliver on their promises, but I warn you to never sign a contract unless ALL promises are in writing. Also never pay anyone before you see the contract. ALWAYS check references. I blame myself for being careless on this matter. I made a mistake under duress and Effectur took advantage of it. Fortunately I have documented every single transaction since the contract was signed and can prove my case if I need to get legal.
In over eight months time, the only promise they made good on was to very diligently remove money from my checking account and to complete one tax return. If I were anyone considering Effectur, I would run away at the speed of light and never look back. They will only add to your problems and increase your aggravation and frustration many fold. They are completely incompetent. I truly believe that the most appropriate name for this company is "Ineffectur".
